The Trophy of Rebirth was sculpted by László Fekete in 2004 using existing ceramic objects with newly clay forms. As its names sounds, it a statue of rebirth from oppression through struggles to the newly found state of liberty. The artist work tries to create an image that questions the structure of power and politics. To represent these two, the artist has used a horse trying to break away from the past. Which was full pain and blood gushing afflicted by the powerful, wealthy, ruling class symbolized by the trophy. The trophy was given as a gift to Garth Clark and Mark Del Vecchio. These compositions of epic sculptures are exhibited at The Audrey Jones Beck Building LL 20 Public Corridor. The statue has overall dimensions of 21 × 24 × 21 inches, meaning that is relatively a small statue that one carry on a palm.

The artistic work of Fekete is in three-dimensional view giving the audience the clear imagery of his work.

For instance, there are three pictures taken from all direction of the sculpture of which is showing the other sides of the artwork.  As such, one can see the sculpture from all sides as can be turned and viewed from any side relative to the viewer. Through a combination of curves and shape, the artist produced a relatively small sculpture that weighs less than ten pounds. However, the artwork does not utilize any specific shape making it asymmetrically sculpted. He used all types of line to achieve the perfect spectra of curves and contours produced asymmetrical shapes. The line in a combination of curves has achieved a perfect sculpture of horses and pieces of trophies on their back. Therefore, the artist utilized asymmetrical lines and curves together and separated to come up with the shapes.

The source of light which has created a shadow on the bottom left side is not visible.  Trophy of Rebirth代写

However, the light emanates from the top right side of the sculptures and resonate well with the bright ceramic color of the artwork. The light cast grey shadow on the ground but inclined to the left matching the colors on the wall. Then bright red parches are artistically and especially smeared on the horses and the trophy giving a flowery view of red and white. Thus, the colors used also creates unity of variety in the artwork.

Further, the sculptures are all white with few patches of red at broken edges of the trophies especially one at the bottom. The bloody color is more pronounced at the back of the horses near the broken porcelain pieces of the trophies. Each of the horses one leg is painted red while the other one is not but raised on the ground, therefore, forming a kind of a pattern. The flowery handles of the trophies are also smeared in red matching with the brim except for one big trophy at the top. In contrast, the big trophy is also smeared with red at the bottom with few patches on the top part. The color white reflects with smooth feel giving the sculpture a shiny, glittering appearance.

The Trophy of Rebirth is set in an environment that matches with its color and feel. It is placed in a medium sized transparent glass box painted white on its base. From outside the sculptures are visible thanks to the red patches that makes it distinguishable from the rest of the surrounding. The artwork was also perfectly placed in a building that with architectural color matching it so it does not look the odd one out. The whole building is dotted with bright glittering light which also gives a unity of appearance and feel.

The artwork does not seem to emphasize much any rhythm.  Trophy of Rebirth代写

However, perhaps the artist tried to bring rhythm in arrangement and painting of each of the horses one leg red while the other is lifted from the ground. Another seeming pattern created using the red smear on the trophies. The two trophies are smeared with red on the handles and the brim. While the other one which is big does not except few spots which do not form any pattern. The three trophies on top of each other have also created a pattern. Where the one at the bottom is completely broken and is sat on by the second trophy. That is partially broken sat on by the big trophy on the top. Overall, red color creates the unity of the pattern created where the color red is more on the bottom with a broken trophy. Which reduces to a few spots on the top large trophy.

Using ceramic and clay Fekete sculpted two big trophies on top of a broken one. And two adult horses together with their young one struggling to out of broken trophies. The horses are facing in all areas probably as the only way out, that is, north, south, east, and west. The artist has curved the horse’s legs and back downwards depicting the weight of the trophies. The form of the legs also shows how they are struggling to entangle themselves. The trophies are also flowered at the handles matching their pronounced size and shape.

The sculpture of Trophy of Rebirth tells more than I can be able to explain here on this paper fully.  Trophy of Rebirth代写

We can see from the label that the artist was born in 1949 during the communist rule in a war-torn Hungary. He had a chance to experience various atrocities committed by the rulers at that time. Perhaps that why he sculpted an art that upheld the concept of classical mythology depicting the scenes of Hercules and the Nemean lion. In his structure, Fekete used trophies to symbolizes the wealthy and ruling class, and the bloodied horses represent the subjects. Who were the countrymen and women undergoing various forms of pain-inflicting defaults of the rulers.

The three trophies at the back of horses (rulers in communist Hungary) one at the bottom is broken symbolizing tremendous weakening of the power they have on people. The one on the top and which sits on the others seem whole and unmoved sitting on broken pieces meaning the powerful and wealthy are still reign. There is a lot of red colors on the broken pieces of the trophies as well as on horses. The bloodied horses and trophies are a clear depiction of the struggle to be free from the powerful oppressors.

The general symbolism is that the war hurt people the most for the rulers and wealth to continue reigning. Eventually, we can see the big horses almost out of the bloody broken pieces of trophies. It is a symbol of almost to liberty and freedom, but still, the struggle is weighing them down to move fast. To sum up, the artist gave a perfect replica of what happens in the war. The common people suffer the most while the wealthy and the ruler reign on their bloodshed.
