The Chinese and Japanese believe in a myth. Which states that there was a big school that was made up of koi fish. Which were swimming towards the Yellow River in China, and as they swam against the currents, they gained strength. However, there was a waterfall on the Yellow River. And when the fish reached where the waterfall was, they went back.

For one hundred years, the bravest and courageous fish gave a trial of leaping over the falls, and in the end, one succeeded. The gods rewarded this dedicated Koi by turning it into a beautiful golden dragon. And since then, the waterfall is known as the Dragon’s gate. It is also believed that if a koi is caught, it should await Samurai’s warrior cut in a sword battle.

This portrays the cultural beliefs of the Japanese in which the koi fish is perceived to be strong and courageous.  A koi transfiguring into Dragon is mainly drawn at the full-back, thigh, and forearm and signifies courage, determination, and independent spirit.
