  1. Using the MATLAB GUI design a low pass filter to meet the following specifications.

Passband ripple: 1 dB

Cutoff Frequency (fc): 2.4 GHz

Stopband Frequency (fs): 5 GHz

Stopband Attenuation (As): 20 dB

Use Rogers3 PCB material. You may choose the ³Equal ripple´ or ³Maximally flat´ filter.

Take a print screen from the GUI window and return as your HW.

There are infinite number of filters that can satisfy these conditions. You may choose different values for the Impedance High and Impedance Low and each selection will result in a different design. Usually these two impedances are chosen around the load/source impedance. For some values, one or more of the microstrip lines will be too narrow, which is undesired in practice. In such cases, the program will give you a warning that betaL is larger than 45. You should play with your choices of Impedance High and Impedance Low until you GRQ¶Wget any warning. As a guidance, you may watch the values of betaL listed in the middle left window and see the trend of changes as you change the Impedances. As a hint, check Impedance High values between 50 and 100 Ohm, and Impedance Low values between 10 and 50 Ohm.

The program takes a few one to ten seconds to run depending on the speed of your computer.

The PCB specs are listed below for your information. You will need these properties when defining your COMSOL project.

Rogers3 material (RO3003 laminate)

Substrate thickness: 1.52mm

Copper thickness: 0.017mm

Loss tangent: 0.0013

Dielectric constant: 3
